About
A grounded, whole‑person approach to Chinese medicine
I’m Andrew Amaro, an acupuncturist and holistic practitioner dedicated to helping people reconnect with steadiness, clarity, and their body’s innate capacity to heal. My work is rooted in the classical principles of Chinese medicine — a system that understands the body as an interconnected network of physical, emotional, and energetic relationships — and shaped by years of clinical training in both the United States and the UK.
Chinese medicine views health not as the absence of symptoms, but as the presence of balance: clear movement of Qi and Blood, harmonious organ function, and a steady relationship between body, mind, and spirit. My practice is built around helping people return to that state of internal coherence.
Training, background, and clinical foundations
I hold a Master of Acupuncture (MAc) and have completed extensive training in traditional acupuncture, Asian bodywork, and holistic assessment. My background includes:
-
Master of Acupuncture (MAc)
-
MAGL with a focus on cross‑cultural understanding
-
Certification in Asian Bodywork and TuiNa
-
National licensure in the United States (NCBAHM)
-
Clinical experience across US and UK healthcare settings
This blend of academic study, hands‑on practice, and cross‑cultural training shapes the way I listen, assess, and treat.
How Chinese medicine informs my work
Chinese medicine is built on the understanding that the body’s systems — physical, emotional, and energetic — are deeply interconnected. Rather than isolating symptoms, it looks at the pattern they form.
Zang‑Fu diagnostics: understanding the whole picture
My diagnostic approach is grounded in the Zang‑Fu system, which examines how the body’s organ networks function in relationship to one another. These networks are not just anatomical structures; they include:
-
physiological processes
-
emotional tendencies
-
sensory functions
-
patterns of heat, cold, deficiency, or stagnation
-
the movement of Qi, Blood, and Fluids
During assessment, I look at how these systems interact — where there is harmony, where there is strain, and where the body is compensating. This helps identify the underlying pattern beneath your symptoms, whether it relates to the Liver’s role in regulating tension, the Spleen’s role in digestion and clarity, the Kidney’s role in grounding and resilience, or other organ networks.
This approach allows treatment to be precise, personalised, and responsive to the deeper dynamics of your health.
What acupuncture does
Acupuncture works by influencing the body’s regulatory systems — circulation, the nervous system, hormonal balance, and the movement of Qi. Through the use of fine, sterile needles, acupuncture can:
-
regulate the flow of Qi and Blood
-
ease muscular and fascial tension
-
calm the nervous system
-
support digestion, sleep, and emotional steadiness
-
help the body shift out of patterns of stress or stagnation
Many people experience acupuncture as a way to slow down, reconnect, and feel more integrated within themselves.
A practice built on presence, clarity, and connection
Healing unfolds most naturally when people feel seen, supported, and understood. In my clinic, I aim to create a space where you can settle, breathe, and reconnect with yourself.
My work focuses on:
-
restoring balance in the body’s systems
-
supporting emotional steadiness and resilience
-
releasing tension and long‑held patterns
-
helping you reconnect with your own internal wisdom
Whether you’re navigating pain, stress, fatigue, or a sense of being ungrounded, treatment is always collaborative and centred on your needs.
A cross‑cultural lens on health and healing
My background in hermeneutics and cross‑cultural studies shapes the way I understand the body, illness, and the healing process. Over the years, my work has also been informed by training in yoga philosophy and practice, Reiki energy work, and life‑coaching methodologies that support clarity, intention, and personal transformation.
These disciplines share a common thread: each recognises that health is influenced by more than physiology. It is shaped by story, environment, belief, emotional patterns, and the ways we relate to ourselves and the world around us.
This wider perspective allows me to meet clients where they are — whether they come with physical symptoms, emotional strain, or a desire for deeper alignment — and to integrate clinical acupuncture with a broader understanding of what it means to be well. It also informs the way I listen, the way I interpret patterns, and the way I support people in reconnecting with their own internal resources.
Here to support your return to balance
Whether you’re seeking relief, clarity, or a steadier relationship with your body, my aim is to support you with grounded, thoughtful care. Acupuncture offers a way to slow down, reconnect, and create space for healing to unfold.
